2016 TV Season

(Anonymous) 2015-09-17 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
What are you going to watch this fall? What are you most looking forward to? What have you dropped from last year?

Any predictions or things you hope will happen on your shows? Feel free to discuss anything TV-related for the coming season.

The only two new shows I will be watching, I think, are Supergirl and Quantico.

I think I've dropped Grey's Anatomy unless the first few episodes of the season get stellar reviews and change my mind.

I've only ever seen two episodes of "Grey's Anatomy"-the two-parter with the shooter in the hospital, which was pretty intense.

But obviously, I'm certainly familiar with everything that happened with Derek at the end of last season, and I'm honestly curious to see how the show will do in the wake of that. I think it'll probably still have pretty steady ratings, 'cause there's all sorts of reasons and choice of characters for people to watch it, but it'll still be interesting to see how they fare anyway.

That's actually not the reason I'm quitting. I wasn't a huge fan of Derek. But I just felt last season was really poorly done. One of my two favorite characters is gone (Christina) and the other (Callie) doesn't get great stories anymore. My favorite ship (callie/Arizona) is broken up and while for a while there was hope they'd get back together it doesn't seem so anymore. There just isn't much left about the show that I care about anymoore.

Oh, no, yeah, I was just speaking in general terms with the Derek thing there. Apologies for the confusion :).

But ergh, yeah, those do sound like pretty good reasons to quit. I've seen some debates about that pairing on the TV Line website and I can understand the frustration there. Especially if they do dangle those hopes every now and again only to snatch them away. It's like, "Just make a decision either way and stick with it". Wise choice to walk away if it's not doing it for you anymore, but I'm still sorry regardless on your behalf.

I'll be watching The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones still. I will probably catch that Jessica Jones show on Netflix.

Other than that, nothing really. I am not even sure what other new shows are out.

Definites are Gotham, NCIS, NCIS NO, Criminal Minds, Supernatural, POI, Elementary, TBBT

I'm going to try Castle again but it's so close to be dropped. I was really meh about it last year.

I'm dropping Arrow and probably Flash because I'm so far behind and I'm already watching so much else. I'm really interested in Flash but now that there's yet another show in their universe, I'm feeling overwhelmed by them.

I do kind of want to give Supergirl a try. I feel like there was another show starting I wanted to try too but it's escaping me right now.

I think Criminal Minds is probably the only show right now other than Doctor Who that I don't think I'll ever quit. I felt that way about Castle, but after last season I'm thinking if this season doesn't improve I'm out. And I felt that way about Grey's Anatomy but have decided to drop it.

I really don't see how Criminal Minds could offend me enough to make me stop watching. Even for boring episodes, there are peppers of good character moments. I still love the characters. Their bad episodes are never so awful that I can't watch. I guess it's one where I have no conception of what I need the show to be or where to go so it can't really screw up that badly.

(Now, watch them do it...)

Re: 2016 TV Season

This is how I feel :). I like a lot of the cases on the show, but I'm here for the characters and as long as I can enjoy them and their stories, and see how they're affected by the cases they work with (or help those on cases they dealt with, victim or unsub), then I'm good to go.

Plus, I've only just become a fan of the show a little over two years ago (I'd seen a couple episodes here and there prior to that, and liked what I had seen, but for some reason it took some time before I started checking out the series as a whole). So I figure that given the point I came in at, it just makes sense to stick with it to the very end :p. And I just like being there to see how a show wraps things up when the time does come for it to end. I don't know how much longer "Criminal Minds" plans on running (probably not too many more years, I'm guessing), but I'm really interested to see how they will end things when the time does come.

I think sometimes it's nice to come into a show later on. I started CM after Gideon and Elle had gone so I wasn't attached to them, which was nice. Criminal Minds is definitely a show where you can jump in pretty much at any time.

It's interesting to think how much longer it has. Lots of fans have been complaining about the last few seasons but they're still watching and the numbers it's getting are very good. It has the added wrinkle, though, of being produced by ABC and not CBS, so CBS kind of wants to get rid of it for that reason. But it's too popular to get rid of so I don't think they would. I think it's not unreasonable to think it might do an NCIS-type run. I can hope at least.

I just hope that whatever happens, it's not like CSI NY and CSI Miami, where they were on the bubble for several years and never knew when their last season was so their season-finales were made to be series-finales but also give room for another season. The later seasons were hampered by not knowing if they could go for bigger storylines or if they should start wrapping up loose ends.

I honestly probably won't pick up any new shows because most of mine get canceled too fast.

I'm looking forward to Nashville and Jane the Virgin and that's about it.

Flash and Venture Bros are the only ones I'll watch for certain. Maybe Arrow, but I'm not sure yet. I dropped Grimm last season, so I won't be watching that.

I'm hoping for action, funny moments and superhero shenanigans.

Have they confirmed a Daredevil season 2? If so, that.

Also the new South Park season. I missed last night but that's okay, I usually grab and stream the uncensored version over the weekend.

I'm looking forward to watching Brooklyn Nine Nine, Elementary, Flash, Galavant and giving Jessica Jones a try.

Oh and I'm gonna check out Supergirl to see how I feel about it.

I'm considering dropping Castle though, it's not reached some awful level of unwatchableness for me or anything I'm just getting a bit bored with it. I do love the themed episodes though, they're always fun so I might tune in to check that out if they have one this season.

Hmm, trying to remember...

I'll keep watching The Walking Dead (for now), will probably give the new season of American Horror Story a try, will be tuning in to Person of Interest again for sure, am not overtly excited for Doctor Who, but again, I'll try it, I may continue watching Gotham, will be watching Daredevil ASAP, probably Jessica Jones as well, Empire too, and Galavant and Fargo. (If Fargo is even airing in 2016? IDK when most of these things are airing, lol, whatever.)

There's also Hawaii 5-0 which I need to catch up on, and also Haven. I intend to watch them both but it might be a bit...

The only ones I remember dropping were How to Get Away With Murder and Defiance. I might pick Defiance back up at some point, but find it unlikely. Same with Archer; the first few seasons were absolutely amazing, and while I was still enjoying the show where I left off, I just have so many things to watch... not sure I'll get back around to it, at least not soon.

Oh, and the only 'new' show I'm considering as of now is the new Heroes, which I'll probably watch then complain about and immediately drop.

Still going to be watching "Criminal Minds" (I'll be writing reviews for it for the SpoilerTV website), "Sleepy Hollow", "How to Get Away with Murder", "American Crime", and I look forward to the return of "Bates Motel" in a number of months' time, too.

As for new shows? Um, well, I'll check out the CM spin-off, "Beyond Borders", see how it goes. I liked the premise for that spin-off more than the one for "Suspect Behavior", and if the cast can gel well enough on their own and make me care about their characters as much as I do the ones on "Criminal Minds", then I'll probably stick with it. Other than that, I don't know what other new shows I might check out-will have to go back and look at some of the new ones that are out there and see what sparks my interest.

As for hopes/predictions, well, I'm crap at making predictions, but in regards to what I'd like to see on the returning shows:

"How to Get Away with Murder"-I really hope there's a lot of focus on the fallout from the secrets the group is keeping. I want to see how far they go to keep their secrets, what alliances may be formed or broken, stuff like that. I want the show to continue to explore the characters more deeply, and make us connect to them more and more.

"Sleepy Hollow"-I just hope all the retooling can get the show's spark and fun back. I hope they remember the awesome chemistry amongst the cast, and work with and focus on that, and give us some spooky villains for the characters to deal with :).

"Criminal Minds"-well, there was a Zap2it article out a while back saying one of the regulars would be leaving, so I'm really curious as to how the hell that'll play out. I don't know if they mean they'll leave temporarily or permanently, but if it is permanent, so long as they're not killed off, that's all I ultimately ask for. At least if they just move away or transfer or quit the team there's always a chance they can come back, even if only for guest appearances. The idea of losing any of the regulars saddens me, though, so I'm really hoping it IS just a temporary leave of absence for whatever reason. But still. Be VERY interesting to see how that whole thing goes down.

"American Crime"-Don't know that I have any requests or specific hopes. I'm just really intrigued to see how they handle the new storyline they're working on for this season's run of episodes :).
