Re: So, seen the Republican Nominee debate on CNN

I would vote for the worst Democrat candidate, someone I couldn't stand, just to help keep the Republicans out of office. They scare me that much.

That is, I think, certainly the most common reason people make their votes for President in the US these days.

Our political system, not lookin' so good.

NGL I'd totally vote for the Kingdom Hearts version

Yeah, I just can't go for a single one of the current Republican crop. Not a single one. They're saying a lot of the same stuff about the financial side of things that they've said before, so nothing's changed there, and with people like Huckabee or Santorum, their take on social issues is flat out terrifying.

I'm still trying to figure out how they can even claim to be the party of "limited government". That's the question I want a moderator to ask them sometime. Because if they're for all these restrictions and regulations in regards to immigration, and if they're all for defunding Planned Parenthood and putting more restrictions on women's health issues, and stuff like that, then that...is very much not the definition of "limited government interference".

(On a different note, not related to last night's debate itself, I also love how their argument when it comes to the gun control debate is always, "Regulations and restrictions won't stop people from buying guns or shooting people!". But apparently they seem to think that defunding Planned Parenthood and restricting women's ability to get an abortion will somehow stop women from having abortions, or stop doctors from performing them? Eh?)

Because they believe embryos are people. And they view regulating abortion as a sad but necessary step to protect those people, and that that is one of the few functions government should have.

You don't have to agree, but that's what they think. It's not internally inconsistent.

If you're looking for a "gotcha!"-argument, you could argue that it is necessary to restrict people's gun rights in order to save life and so they shouldn err on the side of life and not freedom when it comes to guns.
