Shaming of male pastimes, particularly pastimes that reduce a mans reprieved ability to be of use, is pretty much business as usual in almost all aspects of our society going back as far as the ye olde coffee houses that "encouraged" men not to perform their "Husbandly duties" (Translation - Fuckin') and the subsequent movement to have them shut down.

That's where it starts anyway, it spreads the same way as any hate spreads, some people really don't like to see dudes doing undudely things, come up with justification for why they're right to try and stop it, and people buy into the justification.

Brony hater: "Did you know, I hear they're paedophiles?"
Random reasonable schlub: "Well that makes sense to me, it is a show for little girls, what else would they want to watch it for? Everyone knows mens sexuality is violent and forceful and beyond control"
Others: "Yeah, down with paedophiles! Down with Bronys!"
Random questioning schlub: "I can't see any proof of this"
Rrs: "Look at the porns they draw"
