It's too bad the FW wiki is long gone because I can't do justice to how funny it was, but as I remember it:

Back in the hayday, hogwarts-elite was THE lj community for house sorting. You posted your application and members sorted you based on the answers. I've heard it's a lot more laid-back nowadays but back then? Serious Business! ahoy Any bias towards any of the houses got you Squibbed - that is, not sorted and booted from applying again - quickly and painlessly.

Back then people were very picky about any perceived bias, but for this guy it wasn't really needed. I can't remember how obvious it was in his application - I think some sorted him as Hufflepuff at first? But either way the guy got super pissed and ranted about how Slytherin was obviously the best place for him.

Said rant included how he sometimes was so dark he scared his girlfriend and was SO goth that he worked at a goth club.

Bartending.

In the dark.

This line took off like wildfire and saw some use even outside of the HP fandom for anyone who took their goth image too seriously. It probably fell out of use because the goth style isn't as big a deal nowadays.

... as a goth myself, after reading that I literally put my head in my hands. FFS.

I see other goths around but most of them are around my age -- late 20s, early 30s. (I'm 30.) Any of us that were That Serious when we were teens and are still goths grew the fuck out of it. Dear gods. Even me at 17 would have been rolling my eyes so hard.

what is the young un equivalents do u know? i assume the need to be "dark" is still there.

i'm an older former goth, still wear a lot of black as my base colour, attracted to strega fashion and black metal these days.
