I'm more concerned with the medication itself. It's a new breakthrough in sleep medicine, sure, a drug intended to help with what's called third stage sleep. The white whale of the science - most drugs pretty much only affect first stage, which means they can knock you out but maybe not keep you out, nor give you restful sleep.

I was following this one when it was only known by 'suvorexant,' because it dovetailed with some research I was doing at the time. It had a hard time getting through the approval process and there's doubts it should have. The thing I kept reading as being the thing to drag it once it got into the wild? Night terrors. I don't mean the occasional nightmare, I mean the shit that kept HR Giger up.

Sure enough, I'm already seeing people complaining about this as a side effect, and in larger numbers than the manufacturer wanted to acknowledge.

That's fucking horrifying.

/Side note from a random anon: It always suprises me that you can apparently acctually advertise such strong drugs on TV (or anywhere else, really). Over here we only have ads for OTCs. I think the assumption is that with stronger medicine teh influence of marketing should be as limited as possible. I went to watch this ad on YT and the list of side-effects was really horrible to me, because I'm just not used to seeing this kind of drugs adverised (I'm well aware that almost everything has long lists of potential side effects, but still...)
