I'll admit there are a few where I'd prefer they not be gender-swapped, but that's just personal preference. But for the most characters it would change little. Exceptions being:

1) Bilbo from The Hobbit. I know it's done a lot in fic, but that's usually exactly to change the dynamic. It might just be me, but if you change Bilbo (and keep all the dwarves male), it's less about differences in culture and more about differences between the sexes. Bilbo's the homebody, the one who enjoys cooking, the peacemaker, etc. All very stereotypically female things.

2) A lot of Star Wars characters. Though I suppose you could swap them all. I say this mainly because so much of SW is about fathers and sons.

I don't know if someone has actually ever swapped all of them. But I do know of fics where both Bilbo and *some* of the dwarves were swapped.

I agree with you on Bilbo. I'm much more interested in one of the dwarves being genderswapped (though in general genderswapping is not my thing).

After reading quite a few fem!Bilbo fics in my time, I agree, but it's more because I wanted a more canon-flavour dynamic.
