To me, if I pick up a canon, I'm interested in the characters the way they are presented in the original canon. Sexswap or raceswap them and I'm no longer interested, because they aren't the same characters that initially drew me to the canon. You can't pretend that changing a character's gender or race isn't going to have an effect on the character, and if it doesn't have any effect at all, then... why do it in the first place except to get SJW brownie points?
