Re: Fruit pastry and moldy raspeberries

I would and I do eat things that have a little bit of mold on them after removing well around the moldy part. And as someone who is immunosuppressed, it has never once gotten me sick. However, things to note: my parents also did this when I was young. What can I say? We were poor. You don't waste food when you're poor, even food with a bit of mold on it.

I'm not sure I'd recommend it to someone who didn't have that upbringing.

Yeah, same, coming from another person who grew up poor and would cut moldy bits off of fruit and veggies. I didn't learn until later in life this was a no-no, but, for what it's worth, I've always had a strong general health and immune system (not necesarilly because of the mold; maybe I just had a good health already and was therefore not made sick by the mold. Or I just got lucky).

Well, knowing what I know now... it's really the exposure in childhood that stimulates that immune response. So yeah, I will certainly continue eating stuff that had had moldy bits cut off of it, because at this point I've done it so much that it has little to no deleterious effect.

Again, wouldn't necessarily recommend that as a strategy to someone who has never done it before.
