Fruit pastry and moldy raspeberries
(Anonymous) 2015-09-21 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)Unfortunately, I noticed three of the raspberries in the middle of the fruit had a small amount of mold. Not a lot, just a few little fuzzy spots. I removed those three. None of the other fruit seems to have any mold.
It came from a store, but the label was removed, so I can't find the expiration date.
Would you eat a pastry if a small amount of the fruit had mold on it and that fruit had been removed? Is the rest likely to be safe to eat?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-21 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)OP
(Anonymous) 2015-09-21 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)I'm also worried about the filling. I don't know what those things are made of (and like I said, the label is gone) but I am worried that if it's been around long enough for some of the fruit to have mold, then maybe the filling could have gone off, even if it's not moldy?
I've never heard of steak being aged to the point of having mold. Do you have a link for that? Meat is one of the last things I'd eat after it's gone bad in any way...

(Anonymous) 2015-09-22 03:09 am (UTC)(link)Not to mention, mold can also grow alongside bacteria like salmonella, listeria and e-coli. Cutting around the mold isn't going to do much in that case.

So short answer is no. It's not safe.
It's sad, but it's probably best to bin it.

I'm not sure I'd recommend it to someone who didn't have that upbringing.

Again, wouldn't necessarily recommend that as a strategy to someone who has never done it before.

Re: Fruit pastry and moldy raspeberries
(Anonymous) 2015-09-22 12:05 am (UTC)(link)Raspberries are way more susceptible to mold and mold over way faster than any other fruit IME.
Re: Fruit pastry and moldy raspeberries
Last night I was going to buy discount strawberries but on inspection every packet had tiny traces of mold. I can't.
Re: Fruit pastry and moldy raspeberries
(Anonymous) 2015-09-22 01:16 am (UTC)(link)Raspberries are also more prone to mold than most other types of fruit, so chances are the rest of it is just fine.
Re: Fruit pastry and moldy raspeberries
Everything has spores really, so you can't be too pure except for your own comfort.

It is NOT the same as aged cheeses. Especially if it's a cooked pastry item. I wouldn't do it, OP.
