SPOILERS FOR TLOU

Setting aside the fact that the ending of The Last of Us had the most nonsensical premise you can imagine (there is no procedure on earth that would require removing someone's entire brain as a biopsy, and they could easily have gotten what they needed to create a vaccine with a simple cerebrospinal fluid sample).... motherfucking Joel is the worst human being in the world.

Seriously the worst. I can not believe we were supposed to root for him. That game had me and the SO both yelling angrily at the TV that we didn't get to make a choice about whether or not we'd let Ellie "die".

I don't think we're supposed to agree with Joel, tho? Like, we're supposed to understand why he made that choice and most players seem to sympathize and be like "Wow, I'm pretty sure that was the wrong decision but if I was him and this was real I don't know if I would have made the right one", but the narrative isn't saying "Lol yeah fuck the Fireflies amirite"

I think at the very, very least we are supposed to sympathize with the decision.

I did not sympathize. It cemented my hatred for that game and it's shallow attempts at emotional manipulation. If you have to seriously come up with a scenario that has no chance of ever happening in real life to get your audience to react emotionally, that is a huge fail in my book.
