I don't know but it makes me sad.

Genderbending is the primary way I enjoy het relationships.

Tumblr is now saying genderbending is transphobic...genderspecialphobic, because OMG JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE A MALE BODY DOESN"T MEAN THEY IDENTIFY AS MALE!

So, they are basically mad is is called genderbending instead of sexbending.

I think they'd be mad if it were called sexbending, as well, because the distinction between sex and gender seems to have vanished over the past few years.

But... genderbending is correct then? They are being drawn as a different gender from their canon version. Unless they're naked in the picture you can't even say for sure what their sex is. FFS TUMBLR.

Nope. Becuase who are you to say that Dean Winchester doesn't identify as a woman? And by drawing him wiht a female body you are saying that only FEMALE BODIED PEOPLE CAN BE WOMEN! YOU TRANSOPHOBIC ASSHOLE!

There's always been people who don't like it. The reasons change but the overall sentiment of "I don't like it so don't do it" stays the same. Ignore it. It'll come back in a bit and you can ignore it then too.

Tumblr is a circlejerk infinity loop. Pay no attention, and carry on.

Because people like having things to complain about, and all the wankers were getting tired of rehashing the same stale old wank over the social justice implications of shipping.

Here's one explaining why it's bad, but their layout is an eyesore, so to summarize:

Because it's homophobic/transphobic and it fetishises trans bodies and that's cissexist. And also because it doesn't correctly represent trans/nonbinary/genderfluid/intersex people.

But...there is NOTHING trans about it at all. I've never read a fic labeled as genderbend that is about someone transitioning. It is always just a male/female character who is now in a female/male body.

And I get that tumblr is all, WOMEN CAN HAVE PENISES TOO! But...that isn't how the real world works. Sorry.

Oh yeah, I definitely agree with you. Sorry, should have clarified that in my original post. Genderbending is a fantasy mostly done for fun and sometimes to explore how a character would react to being turned into the opposite gender (or because you enjoy messing with a character and want to see them struggle with their new body).

Also tumblr takes itself too seriously.

Cisgender by default? What? No, they are cisgender because 99% of characters are cisgender. Like, canon that is what they are. Sure, Tony Stark may secretly be trans but nothing in canon supports that. And considering how rare being trans is, it is safe to assume most characters are cisgendered.

Like I said up there, I should have clarified that I don't agree with these posts and just googled them and dug what came up.

But yeah, it's just tumblr logic at work. I definitely don't agree with their points because they are ridiculous at most and just trying to find an excuse to be offended.

I saw a nice post once that broke down the history of gender bending a origins and how it has changed over time. Wouldn't know how to refund that post again as it was a reply to someone being angry over gender bends I think.

Aaww that's a shame. Would have loved to read that.

I'll have a look around when I get home, pretty sure I liked or reblogged it but it was awhile ago. But it was quite ah interesting post thread I think.

Thanks for reminding me. I'll just post my opinion here though, since I don't care about it enough to make a secret. But yeah, honestly, I'm a bit glad that genderbending is getting a backlash, since it is encouraging people to make trans interpretations of characters instead - i.e. instead of making a genderbent Captain Kirk in-universe, that is, a genderbent Captain Kirk among a cast where everyone else is the same gender as the original series, people are leaning towards aus where Captain Kirk is a transwoman, which I find much more investing and interesting.

I don't mind genderbends either way, but personally, I like to see trans characters, so, yay.

Why do you think that trans headcanons have anything to do with genderbending? I would think that backlash would make MORE trans headcanons.

I'm a bit confused - what I am saying is that yes, there are more trans headcanons!

well after seeing 15 year old trans allies shouting down 30+ transsexuals over this, I think they don't know what the hell they are saying.

They see it as making trans issues to be a joke. Or it's appropriating them.

Rule 63 is just something silly and fun, nothing more than that. Tumblr needs to get it's collectives panties out of it's sandy wads.
