She was 17 when it happened. But I still think she should be tried as an adult. She was damn near 18, and she seems clearly unrepentant.

That lady who helped nazis and is now like 90 is being tried in juvenile court for her war crimes. *confused shrug*

Because the crime occurred when she was a juvenile. No-one stays a juvenile, but the criminal was a juvenile at the time of the crime. You can't hold a persons past actions based on who they are in the present. It's like that whole "If I'd known then what I know now" thing. You can't change who you were in your youth by who you become, you can only answer for what you do in your youth in the context of who you were in your youth.

Is 17 considered a juvenile? Is this a state by state thing? I don't know the law but the teachers at my school always threatened the problem kids at my school with being tried in adult court about various things, but they could have been full of shit...

I'm pretty sure under 18 is always considered a juvenile by default. However, there are ways to get a juvenile moved to adult court. Some states don't have a minimum age for that. In other states it varies. here is an article on it from PBS. Wikipedia has more, but it is Wikipedia, so...

Thanks for this info! I am looking it up and apparently my state (Texas) is a little funny with the law, but this is a good general reference! It has cleared things up for me.
