Historical fiction, horror, LGBTQ themes...
(Anonymous) 2015-09-25 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)Historical fiction (or fantasy!) about Ancient Egypt (no Ptolemaic Egypt and beyond), the Incan Empire, or pre-Colombian America of any sorts.
Horror works that have a lot of mood and mystery. I love all the gothic horror tropes, and supernatural horror. I've read most of the classics of the genre, so I'm looking for some recent works (last 10 years or so) that fit the bill.
LGBTQ themes/characters are a cool bonus in all the above.
Re: Historical fiction, horror, LGBTQ themes...
Not ancient history, but 'Some Who Knows My Name' is about a girl kidnapped from Africa and sold into slavery in America. It's a bildungsroman and very well written.
If anybody knows of any historical fiction set during the Incan Empire, I'd love to read it.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-26 03:28 am (UTC)(link)For horror:
Sarah Waters' The Little Stranger which is more suspense/gothic than straight up horror.
