Yeah I definitely believe there's a time and place. I don't think art class is the place for fanart.

That really depends on the art class/your major/the assignment. Many art classes have specific guidelines to their assignments so you couldn't draw fanart anyway but there are times when it happens.

Animation majors and Illustrators in particular are often huge nerds who like drawing fanart. It's also honestly not looked upon as that weird when drawing other people's properties is what most of us end up doing for a living.

I mean I've gotten jobs based off my fanart alone where people never even saw my formal portfolio so I don't really hide my fanart from anyone anymore. I'd only advise young artists to hide things that are particularly smutty or out there even for fanart.

Nawh I'm talking about the people who try to squeeze it into the assignments that are like draw from real life. It's like purposely missing the point of the class and just doing what you want to. Like why even bother with class?

Well yeah that would fall under doing the assignment wrong which always annoyed me in art school whether it was fanart or not. Some art students think they can do whatever they want but that's not realistic to the working world.
