Rape
Too much man angst
Too dark and gritty. Unless it's like a Stephen King horror I see no reason for over the top violence to make it ~more real~.
Romance is main focus

Couldn't get into it for the above reasons. Dear lord I tried but it was a dull mildly creeped out trudge and I stopped a chapter off the end of first book. Definitely not for me and sane deal with the TV show. :/

I don't know why I took to the show. I was young and naive and hopeful, and a fan of the Anyone Can Die trope, and the worldbuilding. Now I want to see what happens, dammit. I've just disengaged emotionally somewhat. Not going near the books.
