I don't normally talk about fandom or fanfic to non-fandom people in RL. One person at our church mentioned she used to be really into fanfic and I momentarily got excited, but then she said she'd 'moved on' so I dropped it. My girls aren't into the same fandoms, but they know I 'get it' and they come to me with their excitement and squealing. It's fun.

The only writer's group I'm part of I met through fandom so fanfic is tossed around with glee along with other more serious efforts.
