At the moment we don't really know exactly what wizarding america is like in modern times (Fantastic beasts is in the 20s), so the idea of it being more progressive than England (which is really old fashioned) and not quite as anti muggle isn't necessarily wrong.

The whole of Europe, Britain included, is more progressive than America in so, so many ways. You're an idiot.

More progressive than America pretty much exclusively in the way of 'having a strong social safety net', as far as I can tell. So that's exactly one way.

Maternity pay
Better social security
Far greater social mobility
Better environmental legislation (that protects the populace as a whole)
Better gun controls
Considerably less gun crime even where gun ownership per head is higher than the US
Lower obesity rates

Mind you, a few Asian countries can claim all of these too. So basically, despite being one of the richest and most powerful countries in the world (probably second to China now though), America is still the fat, socially stunted embarrassment of the world.

That wealth and power is concentrated in the hands of very few, too. Low social mobility despite pretenses to the contrary. But anyway, most US nonnies here are aware of its issues. Like Trump having got anywhere near being a serious contender for "leader of the free world". Reagan. Bush.

I meant English wizarding society. As in the one in the books. Sorry I misspoke.

It's not necessarily wrong, but it reads more like "wizarding America is a beautiful progressive shiny land of cooperation and joy", and while I see the appeal of it to you as an American... if I was reading a fic/story like that, I'd probably roll my eyes a little.

Given the size of the US there's no reason wizards would be more "out" than England. America had the Salem Witch Trials. Hell, the US had tons of schools that banned the actual Harry Potter books because of 'witchcraft'. Given how big the US is, it would be EASIER to keep an entire wizarding society hidden.

The whole point of the wizarding society is that in many ways it was different from the muggle one. You're just creating a progressive wish-fulfillment muggle society and adding wands.

My idea is based on the headcanon that English purebloods send their black sheep and their squibs to America, Obviously these people would have a lot of bitterness about the society they came from. They're from prominent families and a few of them end up being big contributors to the way this society runs.

Therefore it would be very different from the way the society is in the books.

I've seen tons of critiques of the fucked up-ness of the society in the books,. Why is it that if some of the gigantic issues of the books society are addressed suddenly it's considered "super progressive and perfect"? Seems kind of black and white to me. I mean don't you think that if these problems were solved, other problems would crop up? Like they almost always do?

I just like to think of what if wizard and muggle governments were at least aware of each other maybe not the entire society but, some of the higher ups.

It's mostly the really long list of things that you mentioned. Cooperation with Muggles on so many levels, no misusing of powers against muggles, wizards dealing with issues like racism and sexism, working with the FBI...
I'm not seeing a wizarding society here. They're just muggles with wands.

And if people were kicked out of one society for not being "good enough", there's actually a reasonable chance that they'd take their new opportunity to be a big fish in a small pond and get even more uppity. Better wizards than THOSE wizards type thing.

Besides, it's the INTERNATIONAL statute of secrecy, not the national statute of secrecy. That sounds like things are pretty damn secret everywhere.
If it wouldn't be secret somewhere, I'd assume it's in a smaller country with a small population, or one where you have incredibly strong extensive family ties that mean that keeping it secret is much harder.
The US is none of these things, and if wizardry was big in the US, everybody would know about it.

Hm You bring up some good points, I'll certainly take those into consideration. Thank you.

As for the things I mentioned, I suppose I didn't put it right, but it's not so much nobody does it, but more that there's more awareness about it. People will still do it, no matter what. Sort of like how making drugs illegal won't stop it, but people are aware it's an issue. There's more awareness that these things are not okay, but people still do them because they don't care. They just work harder to get away with it and cover it up.
