(Anonymous) 2015-09-30 12:09 am (UTC)(link)I have friends actively involved in online fandom who are in their early 50s.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-30 12:17 am (UTC)(link)The only time I'd feel awkward about a fan's age is if I'm interacting with a teenager/preteen, simply for online safety reasons and such (I'd talk to them, perhaps, but I wouldn't do things like share any explicit stories/images with them or anything like that, you know?).
Outside of that, age isn't an issue for me when connecting with fans. I'm just happy to find other people out there who share my interests :).

(Anonymous) 2015-09-30 12:21 am (UTC)(link)Don't get a complex, OP, there are plenty of older people in fandom. Just because people don't announce their age as soon as they enter an online space doesn't mean that they are from any particular demographic. Ask around - you will be surprised by how many different kinds of folks take part of fandom.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-30 02:10 am (UTC)(link)Agreed. Another mid-40s chiming in to say that there are probably way more of us than people think; we just don't announce it.
And who cares? I'm here to read/write/exchange ideas about the fandoms I'm interested in.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-30 10:25 am (UTC)(link)It's because I don't want younger people to feel uncomfortable that I don't normally reveal my age. Some younger ones do feel very, very uncomfortable about there being anyone over 25 in their fandom spaces. They haven't yet realised that there are a lot of us.
I'm happy about their being all ages in fandom, although it is a problem being careful in groups because about there may be those under 18 present. A lot of them have the sense to know their own limits, but you get others who haven't developed that self-awareness yet.
I wish I knew more 60+! I hope I'm still in fandom then myself.
