Re: Work Out question

If you're pushing past the point of pain, make sure to take rest days between workouts

If you're injured, working an injured muscle will only make it worse and take longer to heal

Did the pain start a day after your workout - workout soreness - or as soon as you slipped and pulled - probably damage?

It was some pain after I slipped, but I'm so used to back pain I just kind of ignored it. It was worse after the workout.

This is typical workout soreness, yours doesn't sound like it. Take a break for a day and see if it feels better?

Okay, yes, no, that sounds like the rest of the pain, the stuff I was expecting from working out. The back pain is definitely constant and spasming and not that at all. I'm going to take tomorrow off or at least skip the lower back stuff. And I may try lowering the weights on things because I may be putting on more than I should.

i'd skip totally, you'll find your back is involved in more than you think. it's what has to keep you upright and balanced even if you're only, say, lifting a dumbbell with your forearm

NAYRT, but when I started working out I had the same problem, not being able to differentiate between pains. I did end up hurting my back, and kept re-injuring it, and eventually had to drop almost all upper body work for about 6 months to let it heal.

One of the subsequent pieces of advices I was given - if the pain has a hot point, a specific area you can touch on, vs a generalized ache, then back off on your activity. And better to rest it a bit too much than too little.

I've had the mental freakout that I have to keep going, otherwise all my progress will be lost, so I push through. But really, losing MONTHS because I was too stupid to rest for a week or two is much worse.
