Yeah, for someone who has little control in their own life, or generally leads an uninteresting one, it's gotta feel good when you save the world in a game, or connect with people/characters in a way you can't with people irl.

I think you're right OP, though IMO more people who play games are aware of this than it seems.

Agreed. My RL is boring. I have a boring 9-5 job that would impress no one (I write software user guides -- no one even reads what I write!). But in my MMOs? I'm ultra-rich, highly successful, and people depend on me to SAVE THE WHOLE WORLD.

However, I'm also very much aware that the game is giving me feelings and experiences that I'm not getting in real life. Would I rather have them in RL? Sure. But I'll take the game's substitute.
