Re: What TV show/movie/book do you think had the best portrayal of depression?
My favorite is Aradia, though. Aradia is dead for a long time--like, she starts the story off being a literal ghost. It's shown she used to be bright and friendly and willing to stand up against injustices, but then she died and she just stopped caring about things. She didn't have the drive to do anything; she did things, but she was just going through the motions because of what had to be. She went through periods of anger and fruitless attempts at rebellion but sank back into being lifeless. She had to die thousands of times, and because of her time powers, she just respawns (sort of) in the same circumstances, and it just goes around in circles for so long. She just can't seem to escape it and she can't seem to bring herself to care all that much; she can only go through the motions.
Then some magical shenanigans happened and she's alive again and very enthusiastic about being alive again, but she hasn't forgotten what she used to be like, and likes to help people in similar circumstances, like Dave and Sollux.
That's generally my experience, except with no awesome magical time powers or fairy wings, sadly.
