Not that I really care about obligatory movie romances but I thought pairing the tough girl with the sweet boy was pretty refreshing, usually it goes the other way around.

That's because most girls are sweet, tough girls are rare. But when there's a tough girl, they always end up with the sweet boy.

Jaime/Brienne

(Anonymous) 2015-10-02 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Jaime is an asshole, he isn't sweet.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-02 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I think ayrt was using that as an example to counter the "when there's a tough girl, they always end up with the sweet boy" statement.

...no? I mean Ellen Ripley, Lara Croft, Claire from JW, Bride from Kill Bill, Éowyn (I guess Faramir is sort of sweet?), Furiosa, Leia, Zoe from Firefly, many of the women from GOT (most notably Brienne), and Xena. And those are just the ones I can think of right now.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-02 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Zoe From Firefly is not an example. Wash is sweet as sugar.

Tough girls are not rare, wtf? The Tough Girl archetype is one of the most common female character types - most movies feature the Strong Female Character as a stereotypical tough girl because that's the apparently the only way a female character can be "strong".

(Anonymous) 2015-10-02 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
lol are you for real? Usually they are played as a joke. Most movies feature the "strong female character" that is really not strong at all and end ups being rescued by the protagonist (always a man). Please let me know where's this alternate universe where we get though girls as the protagonist and as an actual character, tho, I'd like to live there.
Most female protagonists are of the "sweet, naive, utterly helpless" kind.

(What's next? Female character with physical strength are just "men with boobs"? *snorts*)

(Anonymous) 2015-10-02 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you are apparently watching the wrong movies.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-02 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Ehh, not really. It was another case of the hot woman going with the funny looking doofus guy. It's NEVER the opposite - never is the woman the unattractive, out of shape, doofus. It's always the man.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-02 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
*cough*Hairspray*cough*

I do agree with your main point, but I don't think you can say never.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-02 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, now, I do prefer dorky, sweet guys, instead of the "strong" ones, but it would be different if they were attractive too.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-02 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was refreshing too, also, I'm tired of the impossible sweet, naive female characters. I like characters that are well-rounded, but if I must pick between brain dead female character that's easily manipulated because she's so "sweet", or tough girl that get shits done I'll stick with the later.
