I really want to read a good Wonder Woman fic with great characterization

also some good comics with her! More specifically, a great origin story, if there's one out there.

Basically, I just want to get to know her. I feel like she could be one of my all-time favourites

Greg Rucka's run on the comics is excellent, both as a starting point for the character and in terms of storytelling. (Collected into 5 volumes: Down to Earth, Bitter Rivals, Eyes of the Gorgon, Land of the Dead, and Mission's End.)

Rucka also did a standalone graphic novel called The Hiketeia, which is not quite as good as his other work on Wonder Woman, but still worth reading.

George Perez's run is good too, but it's very dated. If you have a low-tolerance for 1980s politics you should probably stay away from it. Otherwise, I'd give it a shot! (4 volumes: Gods and Mortals, Challenge of the Gods, Beauty and the Beasts, and Destiny Calling)

The Sensation Comics digital anthology is another good starting point, since it doesn't require any background knowledge of the DC universe. (If you don't like reading stuff on your computer, it's also being published in print! To my knowledge there's one volume out already and another on the way.)

JLA: A League of One, another standalone graphic novel, is fantastic and everyone who's even a little bit interested in Wonder Woman should read it.

Lastly, I would recommend checking out the Justice League animated series if you haven't already seen it. Wonder Woman is one of the main characters and some of the best episodes are the ones focusing on her. It's also a great show in general.

Not the OC, but I just read The Supergirl From Krypton (Batman/Superman volume) and Diana was referred to as the 'Queen of Themyscira' - I've only ever heard of her being a princess. Do you know anything about that? Has she ever 'upgraded' from princess? Perhaps the villain was misinformed?

This intrigues me because she seems to have a different, stronger/harsher personality in these issues, as well as the film adaptation (Batman/Superman: Apocalypse).

I'm pretty sure her mother was dead at the time.

Many writers seem to think that if Hippolyta dies, Diana becomes Queen. But Themyscira was a republic for a while, too.

Looks like it was "The Queen of the Amazons", but still. First time I've seen her referred to as a queen.
