God I hate it when Beauty and the Beast is reduced to "Ugly Monster Guy Gets the Girl". That's not what it is about ffs!

it isn't?

no? it's about loyalty against the odds, against the obvious and/or what society believes. In the original fairytale it's also about filial piety, the concept of valuing your father's promises more than your own good, (which, sure, might be a bit problematic seen in a modern light) and the possible hurt it can cause when you break a promise that means a lot to someone else.
The beast appearance is not about being ugly and "seing the beauty inside". It's about what society sees and judges, and how, although knowing that the beast is a horrible abomination (and for all the girl knows, it is evil, because fairytale-logic: ugly=evil except when enchanted or disguised)you must ignore that fact and abide by your (and your father's) promise to be a faithful wife to it.

so in other words, obey authority no matter what.
