I don't know about fax, but in my experience a landline will do something called 'text to landline', where that annoying voice that tells you to put a one in front of a long distance number or that the number you've dialed can't be reached actually *reads* the text to you, beginning with the name/number of the sender and the time sent. Which is kinda hilarious when she tries to read text speak. Not so fun when your brother-in-law keeps sending them while you're trying to take a bath, and you're the emergency contact for *all* the elderly relative and *have* to answer the phone.
