I think the thing with 3 is, yes, there are some places it doesn't entirely work as an adaptation, but to me it is the best directed by far. It's really, really stylish. Six is also pretty decent but to me there are a lot of places where it's awkward and a lot of scenes that just really don't work, and I mean, if you want to talk about OTT acting...

Just, for me, I think PoA really works well on a cinematic level, in a way that none of the other films quite do.

I agree with this. PoA is my favorite HP book, too, so I am aware that the movie is a bit of a narrative mess comparatively. However, it's the only movie that managed to capture what I imagined the HP universe would actually feel like, and there are so many cool thematic touches that I could watch it ten more times (on top of the several times I've already seen it) and notice something new every time.
