I need to replace my netbook and I can't decide whether I should get a basic Asus for 250 bucks and see how long it lasts, or a Terra with a two year warranty no extension needed for 500/600 bucks and be assured it's a good, lasting one.
I don't do anything fancy with my netbook, I just need to use Word or Open Office, browse a few pages at a time on the internet and for time to time stream a video on YouTube but I want something that won't die on me after just one year, two weeks past its warranty expires like the last one did. Thoughts?

Asus ain't that bad and if you're really just using it for the minimal, as long as you're not spilling coffee on it* or dropping it** it should last awhile.

I've had an Asus Aspire for about four years now. Its crossed oceans and continents, and fallen down the stairs with me. It's not a *good* machine by any stretch, but I do the same as you and it suits me fine.
