Post if you need help with a decision...

Life

(Anonymous) 2015-10-03 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Where should I live? I'm sick of the winters of the Northeast US. I need somewhere warm but not too hot or humid and where cost of living is good as I work mainly crap entry level jobs.

Probably just a pipe dream but god I want to get out of here.

Portland, I guess.

Isn't Portland humid?

Come to the South. We have delicious food, good festivals, and pretty cities. Many of the larger cities have independent bookstores, and we tend to be a little cheaper than the North. We also lack your deadly winters. Come, join us. Come.

And it's not disgustingly humid everywhere! You just have to choose wisely (and maybe avoid anything below Tennessee)

Hawaii might suit. You can live a pretty good life on entry and tourism jobs if you are not too choosy about where you live there. Downsides is the occasional cyclone and pretty much constant volcano eruptions. Downside is that within fifty years it will no longer be American any longer. Hawaiian independence movement is growing, and the difference in island culture (laid back, relaxed, pretty open minded and non-military) is in direct conflict with the continental American mindset.

^ confirmed for truth.

Hawaii's general vibe is way closer to the Canadian west coast than anything to do with American culture.

If you mean to stay within the U.S., the only combination of consistently warm/low humidity is the southwest. Think Arizona, Texas, southern California, etc. Don't know about AZ, but I don't think California counts as particularly good cost of living. Texas maybe, but... it's Texas.

I making jellies and jams with the berries my dad grows in his garden and my sugar stock is dwindling; to which should I give priority: gooseberries or yellow raspberries?

Re: Decision Thread

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2015-10-03 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Why not both?

As in a jam made with both berries.

I need to replace my netbook and I can't decide whether I should get a basic Asus for 250 bucks and see how long it lasts, or a Terra with a two year warranty no extension needed for 500/600 bucks and be assured it's a good, lasting one.
I don't do anything fancy with my netbook, I just need to use Word or Open Office, browse a few pages at a time on the internet and for time to time stream a video on YouTube but I want something that won't die on me after just one year, two weeks past its warranty expires like the last one did. Thoughts?

Asus ain't that bad and if you're really just using it for the minimal, as long as you're not spilling coffee on it* or dropping it** it should last awhile.

**I also did this

I've had an Asus Aspire for about four years now. Its crossed oceans and continents, and fallen down the stairs with me. It's not a *good* machine by any stretch, but I do the same as you and it suits me fine.
