He didn't deserve that, but I think the wizard world rules needs some checking or something, because their world looks like complete chaos.

Okay, reading this thread, I'm starting to remember why I generally stay the hell out of the Harry Potter fandom: you people are batshit insane!

But before I get to the meat of my post, I'll make the obligatory disclaimers. Yes, Azkhaban is one fucked up place and the Wizarding World sucks. Seriously, what part of having a prison guarded by soul-sucking monsters sounded like a good idea?! And everyone was shocked, shocked when said monsters started working for Voldemort.

One of the things that really irritated me about the HP fandom was apparently, according to them, bullying a classmate is wrong, but attempting to murder said classmate is A-Okay. Because I've seen tons and tons of James-bashing, but nowhere near as much Sirius-bashing, even though most would say there's a difference between bullying and attempted murder. I know it feels strange for someone who spent years 11-18 being bullied, but bullies do have lives outside of bullying. They have hopes and dreams for the future and it is entirely possible that James could have been an asshole to Snape but still be a nice person to Peter, Sirius, Remus, and Lily. People have many facets to their personality, y'know.

Plus, as many will point out, Snape wasn't an innocent weeping victim. After all, he did invent the sectumsempre spell, aka that spell you have to be an incredibly nasty person to use against someone and an even nastier person to invent.

It seems weird how everyone in the HP fandom seems to like Sirius, despite the fact, his relationship with Harry was bound to end badly. In fact, his death may have been the best possible end, rather than an angry emotional falling out down the road. Because Sirius saw Harry, not as a thinking and feeling teenager with thoughts and opinions apart from his famous parents, but as an extension of James. Sirius spent all those years locked up in prison surrounded by soul-sucking monsters; he never really matured beyond the high school pranks stage. Eventually this would have led to problems down the road. In fact, I'm a little baffled why Sirius/Remus is the most popular slash ship in the Potter fandom, given that Sirius didn't seem to care about anyone beyond James.

For those going "tl;dr" people are complicated, capable of holding a wide variety of conflicting beliefs/opinions, and I stay out of the HP fandom because no one seems to understand that.

If you're in the fandom, you'll know that none of what you just said is original. I don't like Sirius, a lot of people don't like Sirius, and HP has one of the best Canon discussions if you know where to look where people have made the points you made in well written Meta convos.

I mean, if you weren't even in the fandom, how can you be sure what people thought of things?

I was for awhile but fled. Got tired of the James-bashing, Snape worship, and Draco in Leather Pants. Plus, I was one of those weirdos who was more interested in how Harry was going to defeat Voldemort, rather than which teenagers will hook up with which. So yeah, I got the hell out of there for the sake of my mental health.

A-Anon, I'm not in the HP fandom and never have been. Just remembered some snippets from here and there which is why I made my comment that they need better rules and need a less crappy prison system.

what makes you say that?

i can tell you only dipped your toe into fandom, otherwise you would have known that there was plenty of sirius hate and bashing from the snape end of fandom and that harry/draco is the most popular slash ship, not sirius/remus.
