You can be totally unbigoted and still be a horrible person. It's possible to hate everyone equally and only look out for yourself -- stepping on everyone in your way.

Conversely,it's possible to be racist, sexist, homophobic and STILL be a good person.

A lot of people, for example, during WWII were way more racist, sexist, and homophobic than people are today and yet STILL risked their lives to protect persecuted people.

Whereas I'm sure a lot of "open-minded" and "progressive" people today might not be bigoted but would have been too much of cowards to put their asses on the line.

I think you can be good and helpful and courageous in one way, and a close-minded harmful cowardly selfish person in another way. We're all pretty complicated.

Also, historical context. People in general really did not know better then (wide assumptions about women, queers, other cultures/races), whereas there are less and less excuses now so douchiness really increases the likelihood of that. And conversely, there are some real soul-sucking narcissist types at the forefront of social justice movements.

I disagree.

Depends on if you measure a person's "goodness" by how willing they are to go to war.

Seriously. Basically my entire family and most of the people I'm close to are pretty anti-war but they're good people. That's a weird standard IMO.
