The only reason tumblr loves Nicki Minaj so much is that she's black.

If it were a white woman collaborating with known domestic abuser Chris Brown (Who abused a WoC, to make matters worse), making videos with nazi imaginery, using the f-word in a song, singing about "raping you n****s", calling women bitches, making transphobic comments, appropiating Asian culture, etc., they'd be dragging her as and calling her a White Feminist. A while ago came across an anthology of erotica written by women that included a story by a fairly well-known and respected black female SFF author. I'd never read anything by this author before but had heard good things about her books, and since I'm a big fan of SFF, I thought I should give her a shot. So I read the story.

I found it so terrible, awkwardly written, and unsexy, it totally put me off reading any more of her work.

But I feel like I shouldn't have this bias, and like it's my own fault for choosing a story in an erotica anthology to be the first thing I read by her. I don't usually read erotica, so maybe what I found off-putting was really just conventions of the genre that I'm not used to, and not any actual flaws in her writing. Maybe I should give this author another chance, because her more "mainstream" SFF work might be nothing like that one short story.

Mostly, I wish I hadn't read that stupid story so I would be able to approach her other work without any pre-conceived notions.

I don't think a trans*girl teen should be allowed in the female locker room if most of the female teens feel uncomfortable with them being there, especially when they have a trans bathroom to themselves. I think it's unfair to ignore teenager girl's feelings for one biological male just to be 'pc'.

For the most part I think ace and grey-a sexualities are legit, but I think there's a small part of the community trying really hard to redefine what 'sexual attraction' means in order to call themselves ace. E.g. 'I like sex, I desire people sexually, I feel aroused by people's bodies, I actively want to fuck specific people, but I'm ace because all the things above somehow don't amount to sexual attraction!'

I always move seats in the theater if black teens sit near me. Not because I've anything against black kids, or think they are a threat, but because they are always just so goddamn loud. I know even normal teens are loud, but black teens take it up to eleven, why can they not just pipe down and enjoy the show without making a racket?

The way cure that a lot of people talk about for autism, honestly seems kind of unrealistic Like a wish fufillment perfect cure all.

Don't get me wrong , I totally understand why people want it and don't begrudge them for it. But just, I sometimes wonder if they understand how autism works. It's a developmental disorder, that effects the mind AS the person develops. It sort of molds the inner workings of the mind with a domino effect.

Autism is a complex collection of symptoms, and highly doubt there's a pill of something that can just "turn someone normal". And even if someone could find a way to snap the brain to different settings, there would be a huge difference between giving it to a child before they start developing, and giving it to an adult after they've adapted and developed.

So, yes people who don't want this hypothetical "cure" have a good reason not to, and it isn't about being a "super special snowflake". The thought of someone just rearranging your brain is a terrifying thought for some people.

(not saying it's wrong to want it either. I just don't think it would work how people think. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if it caused a freak out because of suddenly having a whole bunch of different "settings" in the brain than what you've gotten used to. Just a thing to think about.)

A more realistic goal? Target the very specific things that disrupt people's lives. Problems communicating, sensory issues, things like that.

Also for any treatment of autistic people, it's important to regard them as people and human beings in their own right. Because they are in fact, people.Ideally you should be wanting to cure them to help them and ease their lives just as much as for anyone else.

Honestly, I wouldn't trust anyone who regarded me as a thing, or burden, or something lacking sentience to do anything with me, even if they were professed to be the smartest person ever.

You don't get to ignore or revoke someone's humanity because you had a bad experience with one of them, or because you find them annoying.

You can be totally unbigoted and still be a horrible person. It's possible to hate everyone equally and only look out for yourself -- stepping on everyone in your way.

Conversely,it's possible to be racist, sexist, homophobic and STILL be a good person.

A lot of people, for example, during WWII were way more racist, sexist, and homophobic than people are today and yet STILL risked their lives to protect persecuted people.

Whereas I'm sure a lot of "open-minded" and "progressive" people today might not be bigoted but would have been too much of cowards to put their asses on the line.

Health At Every Size is bullshit. You cannot be 300 lb and healthy any more than you can be 60 lb and healthy.

Yes, the BMI is not 100% reliable frequently misapplied and misused. Yes, there is a social stigma against being overweight. Yes, women's bodies are held to ridiculous standards. Yes, it is possible for fat people to have medical conditions unrelated to being fat,

BUT YOU CANNOT WEIGH OVER 300 POUNDS AND STILL BE HEALTHY.

And there's no such thing as "thin privilege".

People overuse the 'tone argument defense'. It's true it's unfair to expect people to be calm when they're discussing matters that personally affect them, specially when they've suffered a lot because of them. But a lot of people act like this gives them a free pass to not even try to not be nasty during arguments. Some people are even self-righteous about their anger, like being angry IN ITSELF makes them more right. That shit isn't cool.

Also, I think there are certain lines that shouldn't be crossed even in the most heated arguments, and telling people to kill themselves or that you wish they'd die is definitely one.

Most stuff accused of appropriation is not actually appropriation. It's more like multiculturalism or a third culture mixed up from the two (or more).

Personally I think it is more racist to expect cultures to live near each other but to stay the same over time and stay segregated. That's...generally not what happens. Cultures change and grow.

I think many of the demiasexual or whatever teenagers in fact feel uncomfortable with their own sexuality because they feel undesirable and are squicked by sexist objectification and possibly slut shaming. I'm ok with them identifying as such, if it feels safer to them, but most of them will turn out to be not asexual.

for example recently homestuck featured a monologue of a character called Jake, who was shown to be sexually attracted to people before. Lots of people who claimed to be asexual cheered that he was asexual representation because he felt broken and said that he shouldn't be around people and never be in a relationship. that was shortly after he was sexually harassed by a mind-controlled friend and dumped by his bf, mind you.
that pretty much cemented my theory for me.
