IDK how common/uncommon this opinion is but...

...I am really, REALLY uncomfortable with "it" pronouns. I will respect someone's request to use gender-neutral pronouns all day long, they/them or even something like ze/zir (I have no problem with those, they're just not common and a lot of people outside SJ circles probably wouldn't recognize them) but it/its/itself just sounds like I'm talking about an object or a non-human animal.* It sounds inherently degrading and even if it's another person asking me to use them, I don't think I could bring myself to do so. It feels gross. :(

*not even a pet - we use gendered pronouns with pets! more like a piece of livestock or a bug or something. :/

Yeahhhh same. I get around it (heh) by avoiding using pronouns with those people at all. You wouldn't believe how many times I can see a person's name in a sentence.

Yeeeeah, same.
Like... I know they request it and it's not fair to place my comfort over theirs, but "it" pronouns just feel dehumanizing to me and I feel like I'm insulting them even if I'm not really.

I read A Child Called It when I was... pre-teen, for sure. Probably about 11, and I just... cannot. I can NOT call someone 'it'. The issue hasn't come up in a personal way, but I'd have to ask if we could find a compromise, because even the idea of it makes me feel squeamish and dirty, the same way the book did. The very idea that people can be that brutal, vicious, and uncaring is scary, and it's a big part of why I find any torture unappealing no matter the circumstances.

Do not read it. It is very sad.

I'm pretty sure it came out later that the author was lying and the stuff in the books never actually happened.

Is that so? Because I thought like some of his siblings were interviewed on it?
