Re: Tropes you like in some some mediums but can't stand in others

For me it's less the mediums and more the execution. I think there's ways to do love triangles without making them contrived, but unfortunately they're often, well, contrived.

Same with best friends or siblings who also seem to hate one another (which sometimes overlaps with said love triangle) - give me a reason to believe these friends/sisters/whoever still care about each other. Even Liz and Jenna from 30 Rock bothered me for this reason - not that they ever seemed to hate one another, but we were supposed to believe they were best friends even though they acted indifferent to each other 85% of the time. If they didn't, it was a special episode to remind us they were friends. (And you know, it's okay to have a TV show or a movie that isn't about the main character's closest friends. But don't sell me on something that isn't there.)
