It's set up as an option, but it's almost never that option that's chosen.

And believe me, I do understand how you might get frustrated by the feeling that the choice is never explored, but I mean...it's fanfic, and people write what they want.

Again, I understand where you're coming from because I don't want kids, and rarely is that addressed in any way in media or fanfic that isn't, "This person didn't want kids, but they got pregnant and had the baby and things are great" or "They changed their mind when they got older and/or when they found the right partner." That definitely happens sometimes in real life and there is nothing shameful about it happening, but it is easy to feel that "this is all that is ever written".

I am all for more characters who decide not to have kids (or who decide to have only one kid), but I am also used to seeing the opposite. Sometimes it works for me, sometimes it doesn't, it depends on the specific scenario.
