It was even worse in the commercial cut; at least they showed up occasionally in the BBC version, but in the commercial cut (junking twenty odd minutes of running time) Gerry's domestic situation was always the first thing shunted out, followed by Brian and Esther's home life. That survived better because Brian and Esther used to have a lot of case sensitive conversations, Gerry's stuff was pretty much always character focused.
