Okay, so none of these are exactly current, but I watched 'En kort en lang', 'The Hunt' and 'Charlie Countryman' for Mads Mikkelsen. I plan on watching Valhalla Rising next (partially because of that secret from a while back).

I already knew this from Hannibal, but he is a spectacular actor. I've found him completely convincing in every role I've see him in, no matter my feelings on the work as a whole.

Like, 'En kort en lang' was a fucking awful movie (that didn't even attempt to make him sympathetic, then gave him a happy ending he didn't deserve) and the writing was atrocious, but I think he did the absolute best he could with what he had. (I wanted to like him, I just couldn't because the film didn't give me any reason to. That I even wanted to given how much of an asshole he was impresses me.) He was pretty in that anyway, and I wouldn't mind seeing him in a good romantic comedy because he could probably make it interesting. (Why the fuck this movie is even titled a romantic comedy idk. What were you people thinking?!)

But The Hunt was a heartbreaking, magnificent film and really knocked me for a loop. (It deserves all the awards!) I haven't gotten that upset over a movie in quite a while; despite the acclaim I didn't expect it to be so well-made or haunting. And damnnnnnnnn, Mads played the shit out of that role; it was nice to see him so incredibly charming and sweet and not have some agenda or hidden darkness. It was not nice to see him be so broken down by everything. :( Again though, at least he was really fucking pretty (the glasses! the plaid! the leather jacket!) and his acting was on point.

Watched Charlie Countryman on a whim and was surprised at how little he was in it, but not all that surprised at what a terrible person he was. Mads seems to play the worst people, lmao. (Not that I'm complaining, exactly. He's had an interesting career!) Anyway, I couldn't really cheer for Nigel, but he was very believable and frightening in the few scenes he did have. (And, again, I wanted to like him despite having no reason to because Mads is just so damn charismatic. It's scary how good he is at drawing you in.) Apparently I liked the film more than everyone else did; while it was cliche and weird I still found it entertaining.
