No, that's fair. There are several more Robins, and only one of him. Altogether, they're bound to be more interesting, and it's not surprising that any of them might be more interesting than Bruce himself.

Back in the "Dixonverse" days, I would buy Robin (Tim's book) and Nightwing (Dick's book), sometimes Batgirl (Cass' book). I wasn't really into Bruce's books think I picked up one issue of Detective Comics and one issue of Shadow of the Bat that whole decade?

excuse me, I revised that badly

It may be in part because the Robins are more... set in time and in their own personalities. Batman keeps changing, he's always there, and eventually this dilutes his character more.
I personally always find it easier to relate to characters that have a clearer definition of their personality.

Robins are allowed to develop, to grow up (at least until they get reset) and to learn. Bruce stagnates because they're terrified that changing their big seller at all will lose him fans.

I somewhat agree with this. I very strongly dislike Damian, but he and the rest of the Batfamily -- and this includes everyone from Dick Grayson to Stephanie Brown to the original Azrael -- are IMO what really make Batman what he is. Tim was right -- Batman needs a Robin, but he also needs a Batgirl, an Alfred, and so on.

Bruce/Batman is easily the least interesting part of batman and his mythos. He stagnates and is written horribly too many times because every writer wants to leave their mark on him and then next one proceeds to undo it all. Not to mention every writer comes in with their own idea of who Batman is leading to a bunch of cheap imitations.

The only time I find Batman tolerable is when he's written in team books, DCU-verse, or written by Paul Dini.

His rogues, the Batfamily, and other gothamites are why I read Batman. Not Batman himself.

Good point, I like Bats in team books also. Batman/Superman and JLA are my JAM.

I feel the same. I still like Batman, but if some apect of him s driving me up the wall, I can always go fibd a Robin/former Robin/Batgirl/etc. who doesn't have that personality trait/limitation/whatever. There are more than one of them, so they can make them all different.

Also, yay for acknowledging them as his sons! Peope can get weird about that sometimes.

P.S. what's Dick up to these days with the new outfit and no mask? I only vaguely remember something about this happening.

Dick is off being a super fun sexy spy in his own book Grayson. It's amazing and the best Dick has been written since his DickBat days. Kinda glad because his Nightwing days aren't that good looking back, too much being batman-lite.

That is good to hear. I had fallen out of interest since everything New 52 and I hated the stuff going on with Dick, Jason, and Tim in their respective books. Though Dick has always been one of my favorites.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-09 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Tim is still shit and Jason is still being Lobdell'd but on the bright side there's no more Starfire in his book which makes it drop from holy shit bad to it's so okay it average quality. Damian is off being great too.

New52 has improved a lot since it's first years. The downsides are mostly GL, Wonder Woman, and Flash's horrible dips in quality since the creative team changes.

I haven't read any Robin comics since they did that whole reboot years ago and the new comics didn't grab me. I was mainly sad to lose the brotherly Dick/Tim relationship, cause I loved it so much. Idk if they've fixed that now. And did they reboot everything again? I'm so out of the loop for something I used to love so much. :/

Tim and Dick aren't close at all in the reboot but that's mostly because of Tim I'd say. Tim isn't close with anyone in the batfamily - outside of Jason, which as a Jason fan makes me livid - but Dick is close with everyone else. Him and Damian had a really heartfelt reunion recently and Jason admits he sees Dick as a brother and was pissed about the whole Dick faking his death thing.

And no, they haven't rebooted anything. Just a status quo shake up that isn't totally awful. Cass and Steph are back too.

That is not exactly an unpopular opinion.
Batman's personality is narrowed down to constantly brooding and wanting to do everything alone. The Robins have more personality and interesting relationships.

I actually just wish the batfamily was like the fandom interpretation where they all lived together instead of doing their own different things.

I hated how the new 52 changed everything and I completely left after that thing with Damien getting brutally killed off. I have no idea what is going on with any of the batfamily anymore.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-09 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Damian's been back for a while. But I don't blame you for leaving, that was less New 52 and more Grant Morrison's doing though.
