Who are your favorite

Male friends and family members? And why?

Ahead of time, Hi trolls. And "Hi, WHAT ABOUT THE WOMENZ?" people. And Hi, "Ugh. Look at this man just wanting attention" people.

We clearly need a thread to redress the balance after all that horrible toxic masculinity shit. I mean, ugh, what's up with their fathers?

The funny thing is, I'm not one of the people who thinks yadda yadda toxic masculinity, but I am actually angry at my dad.

I do want to shout out my good male friend who I love very much and who I have known for a really long time going back to high school, and who used to be angry and a huge dick, and who has legitimately become so much better of a person and so much kinder and I'm really proud of him. And he's a great, smart, funny, kind dude.

my dad is a very flawed man, but I think we've grown to appreciate each other more as we grew older.

My dad is the best person in the world because he always was and always will be there for me, at any cost. Every other male I'm related to can fuck off, because they're bible-thumping, racist homophobes.

My brother was always there for me when we are kids, and we have a large age gap and nowadays live quite far apart so we are not as close as I would like, but I really enjoy seeing him, one of my favorite parts of family get togethers.

My older brother is very awesome and we've always been close, a big part of that being because I always felt like we were more "on the same wave-length" moreso than others in my family (not that I don't like them).

My boyfriend is amazing and great and I'm so glad we found each other. ~<3

I have a lot of cool male friends too, one who I've known for about 5 years now. Starting out because we both loved the same character. He's someone i can always talk to about stuff even if we disagree and I really appreciate that.

My dad is absolutely one of my favorite people in the world. He's super intelligent, caring, down-to-earth, fun, and sincere. My life would not be the same without him and I feel blessed to have him. I look up to him and also relate to him (our personalities are very similar and sometimes he makes me feel better about my quirks).

I have a whole bunch of guy friends and I care about and appreciate them greatly. For example I spend most Saturdays hanging out basically in the company of a bunch of dudes (I am not one). Several individuals come to mind. They bring smiles to my face and happiness to my life.

My Dad and my little brother. I couldn't pick between the two.

My brother just joined the military recently, and we're all so proud of him. My Mom's family is Dutch, and we still hear all about the liberation of Holland, because having these people who didn't have to care going through hell for them and running off those who terrorized them was so profound that it's still imprinted on them forever. He wants to do that, wants to stand between the people who hurt others and the people who just want to live their lives. He's always had a protective streak, and now it's just gotten wider.

My dad > everyone else. He taught me how to appreciate cinema, how to write a good research paper, and how to make really bad jokes.

I also have some cool uncles. The coolest of them all was a hippie back in the 1960s, and is now an archetypal "eccentric fun old dude". He's like an actual cartoon character brought to life, I swear to god. Picture Doc Brown from Back to the Future, but with less science and more marijuana.

This is a dumb question, why divide people we know by gender at all? Especially when it's about 50% of the people we know. I mean, I like most guys I meet, because I like most people I meet. Favorites as in "who do you love the most", kind of has to be dominated by family (my two dads, and brothers) and best friends, I guess.

My dad is one of my favourite people, he's always supported and encouraged me to be my best and he's someone I can just talk to and chill with. He introduced me to a lot of the things I love now, like comics, Tolkien(and general fantasy) and I love coming up with D&D ideas with him. He isn't just my dad, he's a friend too.

My brother is also pretty rad, very similar to my dad with being laid back, chill and easy to talk to. We get each other for the most part, plus he's a good dad and it's pretty nice to see how great he is with his kids.

One of my best friends is a great guy, a little awkward sometimes but he's really come out of his shell in recent years and has gained a lot of confidence in himself, which is awesome to see tbh. We like a lot of the same things so he's always fun to chat to about D&D Warhammer or WoW.

I have 5 male cousins I adore. One is a step-cousin but he's still family. The two youngest are my nephews because I'm old enough to be more of an aunt to them than a cousin. They're all so different and I love them all so much. I am going to be an asshole and say that I had a favourite when I was little. We were closest in age and he once tricked a boy who was bullying me into eating dirt. I was 6 and I had no friends in my street, so this was the nicest thing anyone had ever done for me. Lol.

I don't have any actual uncles, but my stepdad's brother and my oldest friend's dad both told me to call them Uncle (name) at a young age and it stuck. They're great people. I might have otherwise grown up afraid of every man I met without knowing them.

My pop honestly didn't like children much. I was definitely his favourite grandchild, and he tolerated me much more than he did my cousins. He used to take me on his afternoon walks to the beach and let me in his studio to watch him mix paints. He was a tiny, grumpy, stubborn little man. The reason I loved him so much was my mum was his favourite person in the world. He loved her as much as I did, and while the rest of my family missed her for what she did for them, we both missed her for who she was.
I used most of my savings from my first full-time job to put him to rest in the same place as my mum, and I feel maybe a little more at peace with their deaths now that they're together.

I could go on for days about my male friends, but maybe another time.

My dad was awesome. He didn't shy away from speaking his mind, and always encouraged my sister and me to do the same if there was an issue we were passionate about. He was also very intelligent, and had a great sense of humor.

And he passed on a love of music to me. That was one of the big ways we bonded, and I'll always credit him with helping me broaden my music horizons a little more. He also had a good optimistic attitude about life, despite all he'd been through, and I seem to have inherited that for my own life.

As for other guys-there were some guys I knew in high school who were really sweet. I had a friend who was unable to make it to my graduation party, and he stopped by my place a few days later and gave me a little stuffed elephant for a gift. I still have it.

The guy I had a crush on in high school was nice, too. Very involved in school activities, very talented writer and actor, and very interested in the world around him (as was the friend I mentioned above. Then there was my first boyfriend, who was very sweet.

As for current guys I know, there's a co-worker of mine who I enjoy working with-we can talk about all sorts of topics, we're similar politically, and he's friendly and hard-working.

My dad, the best teacher I've ever studied with, and the greatest storyteller ever. And the most patient person in the world when it comes to dealing with my mother, who was a difficult person even before she started developing dementia.

He has always supported me and thought the best of me, no matter how many times I've fucked up in life.
