tendenitis?

[personal profile] philstar22 2015-10-09 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
So I've got what is probably either a heal spur or planter's fascitis. It has been causing a slight limp for months. I saw my primary care to get a podiatrist referral early this week. I'm still waiting for them to call back.

So last night I suddenly got shooting pain on the outside of my foot and could barely put weight on it. I'm pretty sure it is either tendinitis or a torn tendon since this is the exact same pain I had last time.

Called the doctor to let them know, and they put ASAP on my file for the referral people.

I'm just wondering what is the best thing to do in the meantime until I can get the podiatrist appointment. I've already started wearing shoes in the house to give it some support. But I can still barely stand and have a lot of pain.

See if there's sny place you csn rent crutches and stay off it. You might look into cushy insoles but this as kinds beyond that. Also wrap the foot/ankle.

As someone with chronic foot pain, my best advice is stay the fuck off your foot as much as possible, and keep it elevated. Basic Tylenol-types aren't going to help the pain -- Ibuprofen is better if you can stomach it. Get crutches, and swear a lot -- the crutches will help you get around, and the swearing may help manage the pain slightly. (It does for me anyway.)

Seriously though, stay off it. You may want to consider taking a day or two off from school or work or whatever.

Considering I'm unemployed, the staying off it shouldn't be too hard. The swearing more difficult given I'm living with my parents. :)

My mother has a walker she offered. I feel really stupid using a walker, but if it helps.

Yeah, that might be a good start. You'll definitely wanna be getting crutches, though, they'll be sturdier and more appropriate for your particular issue.

Also I stopped giving a fuck about swearing around my mom the night I had to help empty her sump pump cistern when the outflow pipe froze. :)

I'm going to catch hell for this, so I'm planning to post and ignore replies, but find yourself a good chiropractor, one that works on extremities in addition to spinal adjustments. Something may be jacked up further up your leg, like in your pelvis or hip, and that misalignment can cause serious foot pain.

Meanwhile, ice and anti-inflammatories FTW.

Stay off your feet. Check for swelling if you're able to.

Don't apply heat or ice until you know what's going on.

My ballet teacher had tendonitis and always recommended alternating heat and ice for her students with the same problem. But you should probably wait until you know that's what's going on before trying that.

Unlikely to be plantar fasciitis - that's the bottom tendon of the foot. Although if it is, I'm really sorry, because I've had it since May.

Foot issues are so hard to deal with because no one wants to stop walking around long enough for them to properly heal. I've been not running or jumping and wearing supportive shoes for months, but I still got a twinge not 20 minutes ago.

Good luck! Ice and rest are your best bet, but if it's that painful, it's good that you're getting to a doctor.

So, the first pain that started this is at the area that is the top of my heal and the bottom of my arch. And it is worse when I first step on it after sitting down and when I take off my shoes. It fits the symptoms, as far as I can tell, of either a heal spur or plantar's fascitis depending on whether the pain is originating in the heal part or the arch part.

That pain was causing me to limp which cased me to do something to the tendon on the outside of the foot. So I now have two issues with that foot, although it is the second pain that is making it all but impossible to put weight on that foot.
