Slight tangent

My mother was the abusive parent when I was growing up. It would confuse me to no end that my reality was never portrayed in media. Even today, when a woman goes batshit crazy in a movie, it's Lifetime movie, and it's presented as an isolated, crazy random event. I don't know why we have the impression that women can't be abusive, since they can be equal in all other things.

My father was abused by his (ex) longterm girlfriend. She also abused my siblings and I. So I totally understand the fact that no one seems to think shit like that can happen.

There's a storyline in the Impulse comic about this; one of Bart's friends is showing signs of abuse, and he puts on his superhero duds and goes off to confront the dad...only to find it's the mom who's doing it. IT worked as a 'twist' BECAUSE it's never portrayed in media, so I appreciated that they went there.

My mother was abusive to both my father and us kids when I was growing up, and I saw it as normal until I became an adult and realized that it wasn't.
