I also really love the Maiar and Valar. I wish there was much more information on all the Ainur. I really love people interacting with them, exploring their impact on the world, their creation of the world, how they might think, how they come to decisions on when to act or not, how the elves and men think of them - all of it is super interesting.

That said, I'm really not a fan of Gandalf. I think he's interesting the way a Machiavellian character could be but I don't find him likeable. I do wonder about the two missing blue wizards, and I find the two different takes on how they did or did not achieve their mission to be very interesting. It would be interesting to see more of the fates of the remaining 4 wizards in ME. And, I would like to see Gandalf as Olórin, as I think he would be a very different character.

Basically, I agree. :)

On your comment about Gandalf, I don't think he's Machiavellian, but he has to keep so many secrets that from the POV of others, particularly some of those he has to keep secrets from, he surely seems like it.

(I have RP'd this sort of POV, quite a bit.)

Which is why I said he was interesting LIKE a Machiavellian character.
