Gandalf is boss, but tbh I haven't read a lot of LOTR fic. I have read some Legolas/Gimli (I couldn't resist) and some gen friendship fic starring Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, but that's about it. It was always hard for me to find fic I liked in LOTR fandom.

I had an easier time finding fic I liked in The Hobbit fandom and I think part of it might have been that my standards were lower. (Not saying I would read anything, but my love for LOTR is deeper than my Hobbit love. Never finished Silmarillion and haven't read Unfinished Tales so I can't speak of those fandoms, but from what I hear people are a tad obsessed with Melkor and Sauron. You like what you like though, and they are big parts of the story.)
