8) I'm curious to know what Vic's being doing that's considered rude to his fans. I met him a few years ago when he came overseas for a convention here and everyone thought he was lovely, but obviously things can change over a few years, even when more fans are aquired.

I'm not on either side of the argument, I'm just curious to know what kind of things he's done.

Though I personally don't think he's that bad. There's far worse out there with anime dubs. :/

[identity profile] adoricrack.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
The one thing I heard that he's done when someone went up to him and wanted him to sign a RoyEd Doujinshi (or a fanfic-can't remember). And instead of signing his name, he wrote "Eww!"

[identity profile] tealizard.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
This reminds me of a friend getting Quinton Flynn to sign her Reno/Rude Doujin. XDDD Poor guy. BUT AT LEAST HE SIGNED IT

[identity profile] adoricrack.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol yeah, at LEAST he signed it..not the way he/she wanted but it got signed

[identity profile] tealizard.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
XDD ITS PROOF THAT HE'S A DICK.

[identity profile] keysha-chan.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, that is harsh. :/ I'm sure they would have understood if he told them he didn't feel comfortable signing his name on it? I know the guy's christian and has his own opinions on male relationships but to write over someone's property like that?

[identity profile] adoricrack.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he could have said something instead of writing "Eww"

It's funny that he stated that he would do just about anything for his fans.

[identity profile] not-a-defective.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll agree that Vic was being an ass in that case. But IMO it's pretty stupid to ask a voice actor (especially an American one) to sign a pairing doujinshi, or even a doujinshi in general. They even say that it's better to have them sign official art. I mean, the doujinshi is some other artists' work anyway.

[identity profile] adoricrack.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm...very true.

(Anonymous) 2008-02-12 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Not this again. For the record, it was someone pulling a prank on a friend, they took her fanfic and asked Vic to sign it. He was a good sport about it, considering that he doesn't like yaoi. However, his involvement (when publicly he wanks on and on about hating yaoi) caused his fangirls to blow a gasket and accuse the fic author of being an asshole who was trying to offend his delicate eyes with porn.

[identity profile] kimchiburger.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, he crashes events from what I here. And something about Risembool Rangers...

The only thing I know for sure is that he pretty much hates yaoi and denounces anyone who's a fan. He's a religious man and we all accept that, but there's no need to push that belief onto others.

[identity profile] justaminuet.livejournal.com 2008-02-11 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It's all a lotta hearsay, is the problem. People on the internet saying, "Well, I heard he did/said this..." But barely any one-on-one first person accounts. Personally, I find most of them hard to believe, since I've worked a con for three years now that he's attended, and he's been nothing but a doll. His fans are crazy, always, but he's been sweet each time.

The only first person account besides my own (and my own are basically what my friend's amounts to) that I know of and believe is one of my friends went to a con this year where she and a small group were having a cosplay group photoshoot near a picnic area. Vic's fanbase, the Risembool Rangers appeared (sans Vic, mind you), and basically had a shit-fit out them, and told them to GTFO.

This was well before Vic ever arrived on the scene, and my friend said she and her friends were long gone and never even saw him arrive. So, it wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't even aware of the situation.

So yeah, my own personal opinion is that the majority of the wank stems from his crazy fanbase, and word of mouth hearsay that may or may not be true. This all culminates on the internet into, "He's a dick because the nets told me so and they never lie." Eh, I don't buy most of it.

It's worth noting that things mentioned in that thread happened to me.

Also, he's no longer welcome at Nekocon (among others, that's just the only one I can think of right now) for some of the things mentioned.

(Anonymous) 2008-02-12 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Otakon as well.

(Anonymous) 2008-02-12 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
That's right, I'd forgotten about Otakon.

I know AWA is iffy on having him back, after what a problem he was this year, but I don't know if they've come to a final decision or not.

He's no longer around at ACEN either, though I'm not sure if it's his choice or theirs.

Also, a very good friend in real life had to organise some things for his fanclub (and him) at a tiny con. They went out to dinner, and she sat next to him. He proceeded to make rude comments about other fans, and ate her food even when she told him to stop it (she'd paid for it herself), because "You're my fanclub so you shouldn't care."

Shortly later the other mods of the Rangers told him a bunch of lies about her because she liked him for him and not the FMA dub (she didn't like the dub, more specifically), and when she explained herself, he didnt care. She didn't like his work, and he would sit there and watch the other girls trashing someone in a largely populated area. Someone he'd met personally and knew better than most of them.

So, there's a few things he did personally, as well as the problems with his fanbase, who he's very active with and could easily discourage (but he thinks it's cool).

[identity profile] linkeepsitreal.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
He voices a character in Tsubasa who, in the manga, is considered by the majority of fandom to be in love with another man. It's fairly close to canon, arguably, but he's very rude to the people who ship this pairing. He keeps speaking of the character as though he's an authority on him, telling us that "you're wrong" and "he likes girls like me." Even though he has not read the source material, which goes way beyond the anime.

Which is fine - it's not the most professional but he's not entitled to like the pairing. He's not obligated to read the manga, either.

But when he tells the fandom "I've spoken to Clamp and they told me he's not gay"? Even though Clamp hasn't been to America since before he was cast? Even though they don't speak English, are insanely busy, have publically said that they hate the anime and want nothing to do with it? Even though the woman who writes it won't even tell the OTHER MEMBERS OF CLAMP what happens in the future?

Sorry. He lost my respect for that one. It's on YouTube so he definitely said it. I just want to enjoy my ship without him constantly telling me I'm wrong and he's right.

As the person who asked the question in said video, thank you so much for sharing my views. I'm very happy that you understood my point.

I'm not totally bitter about him anymore, I just hope he understands someday.

[identity profile] linkeepsitreal.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
I actually didn't hear the question in the video, what did you ask? D:

Oh, you're welcome. It's completely ridiculous that he would say something like that and expect us to believe it.

[identity profile] angathol.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Given that CLAMP[‘s work] has a lot of homosexual themes in it, and the mounting evidence against Fai being straight, what’s your take on his sexuality?"

It was a baited question, admittedly. I just wanted to get his (predictable) answer and be able to prove he said it later.

[identity profile] bodyline.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
There's actually more than one video where he talks about this subject, so which one was the one where you asked, specifically?

[identity profile] angathol.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 12:29 am (UTC)(link)

I'm kind of glad I'm out of the shot, or I probably would've been harassed more than I was after the con. I wanted to stick up for the CLAMP fans out there who were unhappy with both his interpretation of Fai and his attitude on the subject.

And as nice as he could be, he shouldn't be as dogmatic as some people seem to suggest that he is. I wonder about these claims of Christianity getting in the way of homosexuality. It's possible to be Christian and quite accepting of homosexuality, so there's already a bit of a faulty thought process surrounding him.

Some personal experiences.

(Anonymous) 2008-02-12 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
I was at a Panel one of my friends was running on a Sunday. On the same day, he was holding an "Easter Service" for "his fans" next door. The "service" got so loud and rowdy that several people went next door and tried to ask him to keep it down, including myself. He basically laughed and ignored our polite requests, and even took his service out in the hallway and tried crashing the panel and whatever other panel was going on across the hall. We had to call convention security on him and close our doors, which prevented any other people coming to the panel. Later on, one of the security members told me that he claimed WE had tried crashing HIS panel because we were "Anti-Christian".

While I don't think he's completely talentless, I think he's poorly casted in some roles. He made a terrible Edward, in my opinion, because he sounded much too old and forced. I've heard him in other things that were slightly better, but pair my bad experiences with him and his poor role choices, I'm pretty much disgusted by him.
