Right, and shoving people, gate-crashing other VA's panels to steal the crowd, and throwing drama-queen fits is totally acceptable behavior as long as it's Vic, right?

Absolutely not. It's not acceptable behavior from anyone, voice actor or not. However, meeting him personally and talking to him outside of a panel makes me think that the hate is largely undeserved. I've never seen proof of him being an ass, and 'proof' has only consisted of YouTube videos of him at panels answering questions very professionally. If you would like to share some with me, sure, go ahead.

And because your comment seemed to imply it, I could honestly care less who voices who. It's a matter of behavior, not OMG HE VOICES ___ AND IS THE BEST EVER.

Sorry, I'll bet you're sick of seeing me around here, but I felt I should throw in my two cents.

With regards to YouTube videos, I don't think he's always very professional about it. When I asked my question (yes, I admit, it was baited, but hear me out), he basically went off on a huge tangent-laden rant (involving group dynamics in Tsubasa, manga versus anime, westerners sexualizing character relationships and other BS), making up stories about meeting famous manga-ka, and generally acting as if he was the authority on the canon of the series in question. Whenever I tried to respond to anything he was saying, he'd listen to the first half and talk over the rest. He basically treated me as if I was some mindless yaoi fanbrat with no basis behind my reasoning. I'm not.

This is what got me the most:

Me: ...I’m sorry, but I’ve read farther in the manga, and it’s pretty much clear at this point that they’re relatively along the lines of soulmates.

Vic: ...Okay? Does that mean they’re screwing each other? I’m being honest, right? We-we’re big people here; that’s pretty much the question. Is—are they—are they sexually involved, and every indication I’ve been given is that they are not.

It's not just about "baww, he didn't think my OTP is canon like I do," it's that he will stick by his views about the subject no matter how much evidence there is to support an alternative opinion, and is willing to make up "evidence" just to support his own.

Yeah. What bothers this anonymouse is how far into a given canon he'll get, as if voice-acting something = knowledge of the creator's most intimate thoughts about the characters. Neither fans nor VAs should presume to know what is THE LAST WORD on someone else's creation.

Alright, this comment is going to be tl;dr probably, so I'm really sorry about that, but there are a lot of points that I want to touch on from your comment. D:

I think that you're looking at this from entirely the wrong viewpoint. Vic was sent to an anime convention to represent less himself, in all honesty, but rather the series that he voices. Because really, most people don't care about Vic as a person, it's more the series that he happens to be involved in, whether it's DNAngel or Tsubasa. In part it's to promote himself, sure, but a convention is a convention; a gathering of people for a specific purpose. Anime conventions are informal as far as conventions go, but they still serve the purpose of being a venue and a way for companies to reach out to the public. Anime conventions are commercial, so when you send a person to represent and promote a product, it's not a good idea to go onto the subject of yaoi. That would be like going to a business meeting and deciding to proclaim that you're gay. It's not good business practice in general to touch on very controversial subjects. The tangent is a way to answer your question without ever coming out and saying it. It's what businessmen and politicians do, for example, when confronted with a question that isn't so comfortable to answer. Of course, then he confronted it directly, so I guess stepping around the issue got tiring.

Based on your questions and his answers, I do believe that the primary video I saw was...well, of you asking him a question. It's the video linked below if you'd like to confirm or deny that, but in any case, I'll just comment on what you stated here. I also don't plan to go into the part about his tangent because that's not really related to the main point here.

I have no problems with yaoi myself and I respect other people's opinions that they believe that two characters are in love. For me, it's all dynamics anyways, so gender hardly matters to me. However, in any case, we're talking about pretty much pornographic material. We can argue all day about how it's the interactions and whatnot, but the bottom line is yaoi is pornographic in nature. Now, it especially gets touchy when two people are the same gender are being proclaimed to be sexually involved with one another because some people just do not like that idea at all. Living in the deep south, I can attest to that. Yet, we aren't talking about real people. We're talking about fictional characters in a fictional series created by people in another country with the series being originally in another language. There is usually a large degree of a series or characters being open to interpretation. Spelling everything out in black and white doesn't make a good story.

However, I will agree with you that in this specific case, they are soulmates. Whether that means sexually or as extremely good friends isn't specified, or, as I can remember, even touched on. Which is probably where his argument came in. They can be soulmates, but soulmates has a meaning of more than a sexual relationship. Also, you have to remember that the original series is Japanese and intended for a Japanese audience. Having known people from Japan and asked them about it, westerners do sexualize character relationships. In a society where women are not socially equal in any idea, a relationship where two men---two equals---are in love, sexually involved, etc. is more meaningful than 'oh lol, porn'.

D: And geeze, I'm really sorry that turned out so long.

Here's one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RdHhHkh6Rw&eurl=http://lj-toys.com/?journalid=7859245&moduleid=6&auth_token=sessionless:1202817600:embedcontent:7859245%26) of them, but I'm sure you could find several through a YouTube search. That just happens to be one I had easily accessible.
