So long as you are determined to finish the commissions then by all means!

It just kind of adds to the overall feeling of uncomfortableness with this friend because (unless I'm really misinterpreting her messages) it seems like she does get commissions. She's teased me with snippets from some of her commissioned works..... before the start of summer. But as I've yet to see them, I guess they've been scrapped? Of course it's possible the commissioners changed their minds or asked her to not post it publically or that she got writer's block and gave their money back but... yeah, it just feels so skeevy.

Reminds me of a secret a couple years ago where a fic!commissioner complained that their writer (whom they had commissioned for a charity auction) never gave them the fic. Obviously their money went to a good cause, but at the same time... :/

Also as far as less-usual ways of side jobs go, fic/art commissioning is much better than, say, stripping. Even waitressing and bartending was just ugh gross never again and don't get me started on how much I hate my current (IT) job. *laughs*

oh, i see! yeah, i can understand more why you feel the way you do. usually, i ask my customers if it's okay i post their fics on my AO3 account (to show examples of my commission fanfics since i haven't done any casual fic in a while now... i really need to back to do it to show off my skills lol) so that could be it.

and yeah, i think i remember that secret too. it really is something to think about while accepting a commission - could you do it? what are the writer's limits? is there enough time to do it?

i really hope your friend did deliver her commissions because people will not forget and word will spread around quickly about her and it could have hurt her reputation (so that might be why she's constantly pushing it onto you - you know her better than some of the customers she takes on and it'd be easier for you to ask, "hey where's my fic?").

oh, absolutely, haha. i'm stuck in retail hell and my boss's bosses are cutting payroll because they don't know how to handle low sales. i might have to go to a call center job to keep up with everything and still have extra $$$ to save. x_x;

To be fair, oftentimes you just don't know yourself well enough so I won't fault her for that. Can't count the number of times I misjudged my own capabilities. But I didn't bother asking if she finished those commissions because (1) it's none of my business and (2) if I wanted to wheedle, I'd ask about her unfinished multichaptered fic.

Aw, yeah, best of luck again anon! In the end, most of us are just trying to make ends meet in however we can. Would definitely reiterate (if you're still in college) not to let your grades slip up too much. Assuming you plan to use your major in your job (and even not), they can be quite helpful! :)

yeah - i know i do things without realizing until either someone points it out or i look back and go "why the hell did i do that?" right, haha, after all, she was just trying to get you to buy her fic. :x

this should be my last semester in college - i'm planning to look for an office job with my associate's (even if everyone's looking for bachelor's these days lol at least let me be a lowly receptionist) after the semester ends. i'm so sick of retail...
