What about American writers who didn't go to college? Do you see a difference with their writing, or does it still read similarly to you a lot of the time?

I'm pretty sure OP can't even be sure where the writer is from. They wouldn't unless the author chooses to disclose or if its extremely visible English is not their first language. I'm pretty sure if they read my stuff they would probably also categorize me as "American white college kid" because to be frank that is just the fandom expectation.

Exactly. This is the sort of thing I'm wondering about, too, especially in regards to determining if they're even American in the first place.

I am from the U.S., so at least OP would have the "American" part right, but I have no idea how OP would categorize my writing outside of that.
