(Anonymous) 2015-10-14 12:11 am (UTC)(link)You don't need security guards to travel to Colombia. Seriously.
You can probably get by without any Spanish. Lots and lots of Americans travel that way. You could also learn it instead of hiring a translator. Before you go about hiring teachers... I've learned English on my own with materials I could get my hands on. It's not for everyone, but it's doable.
Basically, being poor makes travelling very hard, but not for the items you listed.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-14 12:18 am (UTC)(link)Depending on the area, it's not just probably.
At least in Bogota, finding English speakers (both ESLs and natives English speakers, not all of them tourists) isn't that hard.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-14 12:23 am (UTC)(link)Thanks for the info :)
There's also the fact many English-speaking tourists go to places where it's hard to find a speaker (like where I live) and aren't bothered by it, which I don't think I could do, but hey, more power to them.
