How to make certain tropes work

(Anonymous) 2015-10-14 01:11 am (UTC)(link)If the characters acknowledge IC that they are intentionally not talking and then regret it later and realize they messed up, I think it's fine
It's the lololcoincidences that makes it unbearable
Re: Miscommunication/Poor Communication Kills
(Anonymous) 2015-10-14 01:30 am (UTC)(link)I have a character who doesn't want to talk to his friend about something out of stubbornness and resentment, and his sister frequently tries to advise him to just talk to the guy.
Said friend also doesn't seem to understand why his friend is suddenly distant and cool.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-14 01:58 am (UTC)(link)Granted, it can be *terrible*, too, but there is the potential to be done well.
Re: Miscommunication/Poor Communication Kills
(Anonymous) 2015-10-14 04:45 am (UTC)(link)The best way (and the hardest, IMO) would be to create an argument where both sides are right, in their own way. Make sure it's not a black and white issue, but multi layered, where everyone involved is a little bit wrong and a little bit right but they can't quite make their viewpoints match up. Because that's real life.
Re: Miscommunication/Poor Communication Kills
It's also important to ramp up the emotional reasons why the characters are refusing to communicate, so the audience really understands what they're struggling with. It should seem to the audience that it really makes sense at the moment, their refusal to talk to each other.
