The OP was me. I was anon because of phone

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2015-10-14 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Cops came by (it took an hour). They basically told us they can do nothing. Even though the guy LITERALLY walked to the police department (we can see the PD from our backyard) and told him what he did (he was explaining to them why he beat his dog).

So the officers just tried to talk us out of filing anything. And said there isn't anything they can do. Even if something happens to our house. I asked for more patrols but they were like, 'We are right there and come by all the time.'

Obviously they don't come by all that often considering they didn't see that (or the time those guys got into a fist fight, or the time he was yelling at his GF). So, here is hoping I don't get murdered in my sleep (I am home alone).

Also, I guess cops in my town can't arrest people for crimes they admit to unless they actually see it happen. Murder would be super easy to get away with!

Do you have an SPCA or something in the area? They might be of more help simply because they specifically join to help animals in distress.

It sucks the cops wont do anything. I things work out, both for you an the dog :(

Sadly, animal control is part of the PD. And they are even more useless.

I will look into it! Not sure what they can do without police back up.

You never know. They probably at least have a lot more knowledge about the rules of all this, and perhaps have friendly contacts locally that can help. Someone who perhaps knows the police and can step in and be a 'trusted' voice that will give them the incentive to investigate.

And i can't fucking believe they didn't see the dog. The animal control here will make a person show the animal in question if there has been a complaint of abuse. How else are you going to decide if there *has* been? Jayzus.

Gah, that's infuriating. But not surprising - most of the time, the authorities just don't take animal abuse seriously. Not until it escalates to someone getting killed, and then there's hand-wringing about why nothing was done earlier. But for all the animals who are stuck with currently-non-murdering assholes like this guy - no help. :(

It is! And it did not help that one of the officer they sent was the one that I am fairly certain has a personal vendetta against my sister. He was set up on a blind date with her, but like before the date messaged her with all this info he had on her (house, car she drove, landlord, etc) that he had looked up at work.

If there's a next time, whip out your cell phone and record what's happening (if you happen to have a cell phone handy). Doesn't mean the police will press charges, although it does increase the odds, particularly if the video ends up online.

Oh, lord, seriously? If that's the case, then yeah, that makes the whole situation even shittier (and creepier). Ugh.

I'm sorry they didn't do anything. I'd like to hope the guy can eventually be dealt with without further incidents, but considering his anger issues, somehow I doubt that :/. Still, I wish you and your family, and that poor dog and the other neighbors, good luck in dealing with him.

And I hope he does get dealt with, because even if the police don't give a shit about animal abuse, as another person noted, people who abuse animals are more likely to hurt other people, too, so...yeah.

Very creepy! And I wish she still had the messages but the guy deleted his Facebook.

I feel bad for the toddler living there. Even if he doesn't get hurt by the abused dog, he has to live with that psycho.
