Ever called the cops on neighbors? Why?

(Anonymous) 2015-10-14 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Just had to call the cops on my neighbors. The guy pulls up with his dog half hanging out the window, gets out, grabs his dog, and THROWS it across the road.

He then follows it where it hid on the porch and started kicking it in the face and chest. When my sister hollered at him to stop, he told her, "Mind your fucking business. This is how you got to treat pit bulls when they do something wrong or they bite some kids fucking face off."

Great logic. So now we are waiting because if our house gets robbed or something, I want it on record. :

Jesus, good for you for calling for animal abuse. That's disgusting, I hope they take his dog away ASAP. Update us if you hear anything?

I've called the cops for noise complaints, and for seeing a neighbor woman smack her young kid and swear at it.

More like the reverse. JFC. Good for you.

Dude. What an asshole. That poor dog. I'm with the others, you did the right thing.

I've never had to make a call to the cops, but my parents did once when my sister and I were kids. We were outside playing, and a couple guys got into a big fight in the street nearby and one of them had a weapon on him and looked to be getting ready to threaten the other guy with it. My sister and I were already running towards the house before my dad could even finish telling us to get inside, and they called the police.

Fortunately, the entire thing ended without anyone getting hurt.

Holy shit! Good on you for making the call; that's disgusting (and also likely the reason the dog acts aggressively, assuming he actually does).

My sister says she think she heard him yell that he did because the dog spilled a drink in his car.

What? My gods, it's a flipping dog. And a drink being spilled is hardly a crisis.

That dude's an asshole.

I think someone in our neighboorhood did. It was on a snow day and one of our neighbors (I think the guy was drunk) started manhandling one of my brother's friends and yelling at them all (my brother included IIRC)

It was really freaky for us, especially considering we were like 12-14 or so at the time.

Our parents told us to avoid the guy after that.

I've called in noise complaints, when our apartment office refused to intercede with noisy neighbors. It was the only way to get anything done.

The OP was me. I was anon because of phone

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2015-10-14 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Cops came by (it took an hour). They basically told us they can do nothing. Even though the guy LITERALLY walked to the police department (we can see the PD from our backyard) and told him what he did (he was explaining to them why he beat his dog).

So the officers just tried to talk us out of filing anything. And said there isn't anything they can do. Even if something happens to our house. I asked for more patrols but they were like, 'We are right there and come by all the time.'

Obviously they don't come by all that often considering they didn't see that (or the time those guys got into a fist fight, or the time he was yelling at his GF). So, here is hoping I don't get murdered in my sleep (I am home alone).

Also, I guess cops in my town can't arrest people for crimes they admit to unless they actually see it happen. Murder would be super easy to get away with!

Do you have an SPCA or something in the area? They might be of more help simply because they specifically join to help animals in distress.

It sucks the cops wont do anything. I things work out, both for you an the dog :(

Gah, that's infuriating. But not surprising - most of the time, the authorities just don't take animal abuse seriously. Not until it escalates to someone getting killed, and then there's hand-wringing about why nothing was done earlier. But for all the animals who are stuck with currently-non-murdering assholes like this guy - no help. :(

Ugh. Hope nothing happens to you and the dog is safe.

I almost called one, but I gotta admit I was scared to so I stalled a little and other neighbors called. My ever-fighting next door neighbors sounded like they were hitting each other (and wrecking the apartment). Cops came, the couple got all teary and the cops ended up leaving just advising them to go their separate ways and be quiet.

Is the dog okay? :(

Called the cops once to do a welfare check, had heard lots of yelling/screaming and was concerned. Don't know of any follow ups, never actually met the people who lived there.

No clue. The cops said they can't go inside the house or ask to see the dog.

That is awful. It's ridiculous that the cops can't do anything. I hope that you and the dog both end up being okay.

I've called the cops on my neighbors twice. Once was when their poor dog was howling non-stop for over an hour. And once was when there was a gunshot in the house next to mine.

They have a child in the house! God forbid the kid ever do normal kid things and startle/poke at the dog!

Jesus fucking Christ, what is wrong with that dude?! Please tell me they took the dog away from him and into safety. WTF. eta: Aaaand reading your comment I assume the dog is not safe. Can you at least find if there's some shelter or somewhere where they would be willing to rescue a dog? :( God, this makes me so angry.

One time I heard one of my neighbors screaming "Help! He's trying to kill me!". I don´t know how it ended, but it was the most unpleasant bathroom-break-at-1am experience.

I was tempted yesterday morning, the father next door was screeeeeammmmming at the teenage boy in a way I couldn't make out from his incoherent rage, but that totally freaked me out. I stood outside their house listening for a while, waiting for a trigger to call the cops until he calmed down. Told my partner, who said, "that's not a teenage boy, or not a cis boy anyway". Okay. Now I'm feeling doubly uneasy.

I hate people who do this. IT'S A FUCKING ANIMAL. Considering it's dickshit cuntlick festering cockpustule fuckface owner, I'm not surprised if it actually bit some poor kid.

In no world do animals understand why they're getting treated like shit, or make the connection between right and wrong in the complex way a human does, and in no world is it okay to beat the shit out of an animal that does something wrong because it does not know better.

Yes because he was beating his gf to death. She was OK but had to be in the hospital awhile, he went to jail. He threw her against the wall, Jesus.

Also I'm sorry you had to deal with that op. Hope you are better and they take the dog away from that guy.
